Our trip to Kuranda, Village in the Rainforest

Just wanted to say that our published days are incorrect.   Today is our November 6 and will be published today.  But yesterday should have been the 5th but posted as the 6th because we were having trouble getting on line.  So publishing this today will catch us up ...............  Tomorrow will be the 7th.....  no kidding.........

There were three ways to spend the day in Kuranda, we chose a combine Train/Skyrail/Bus combination.  We could be picked up at almost any hotel in Cairns so we selected the hotel across the street from where we dropped off the car.   It was perfect since we did not have to walk only a few steps.   We boarded the bus around 8:40am and which took us to the Kuranda Scenic Railway station.  We took the train up the mountain, through the Rainforest which took about 1 1/2 hours.  A fantastic journey.  The train stopped once along the way so we could take pictures.

When we finally got to the top, it was time to eat! Liz and I stopped in one of the local restaurants and Liz decided to try a meat pie which is quite popular in Australia. She seemed to like it.  I opted for a burger, Aussie style.  The silly thing cost me AUD$14.50 which was ridiculous!  They had a huge bun, lettuce, grilled onion, tomato and carrots.............Carrots?  Whoever, heard of carrots on a burger?    After lunch we were going to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary or Bird World but each were over $16 for admission. We decided not to go. We had spent $100 apiece to ride the train and the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, we were not going to spend another penny to see butterflies or birds that could be seen for free in Florida. We did our shopping and went to the Skyrail station to await our back to the bus. Below you will see pictures taken from the Skyrail. This was worth the money we spent.

These views were spectacular.  If anyone is EVER to go to Australia, please only take the Skyrail up and back.  It's too beautiful not to see and if you want to see butterflies (which I did but refused to pay the admission) or birds in their natural habitat, make sure you take tons of money.  Everything is extra..

All this from the skyrail, isn't it spectacular?    Wait until you see our mug shot from the Skyrail.  We thought we might as well ham it up since they were taking our picture anyway.

On our way down............  We had a great day...  See you all again soon!
